Venkat Narayan, Executive Director of the Emory Global Diabetes Research Center, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished International Service in the Cause of Diabetes award by the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The award, one of the ADA’s highest honors, recognizes individuals who have made exceptional global contributions to diabetes research, evaluation, and care.
Dr. Narayan will be officially presented with the award during the ADA’s annual scientific conference on Monday, June 23, at the Plenary Session from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m., where he will also deliver a keynote lecture.
Currently holding the Ruth and O.C. Hubert Chair of Global Health at Emory’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center, Dr. Narayan is also a professor in both the Departments of Epidemiology and Medicine. A member of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine and a foreign fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Dr. Narayan is widely recognized for translating scientific findings into real-world public health policies that impact millions globally.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the global fight against diabetes,” Dr. Narayan said in a statement. “This recognition is not just for me, but for my colleagues and collaborators around the world who are committed to improving diabetes prevention and care.”
The award reinforces Dr. Narayan’s legacy as a thought leader in tackling one of the world’s most pressing chronic health challenges.
