North Carolina Man Charged With Attempted Murder After 2-Year-Old Suffers Catastrophic Injuries
GARNER, NC, July 1, 2026 — A 44-year-old man from Garner, North Carolina, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and multiple felony child abuse offenses after authorities alleged he inflicted severe injuries on his 2-year-old son and failed to seek immediate medical care.
According to the Garner Police Department and court documents, Kiran Netha Pasunuri was arrested following an investigation into injuries sustained by the toddler. The child was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, including a massive brain bleed, retinal hemorrhages, and compression fractures to multiple vertebrae.
Medical records cited in court documents state that surgeons were forced to remove part of the child’s skull in an emergency procedure to relieve pressure on the brain.
Investigators allege that Pasunuri intentionally caused the child’s injuries and delayed seeking medical attention, causing the toddler to suffer for an extended period before being taken for treatment.
Pasunuri has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, and two counts of felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
The 2-year-old survived the injuries and remains the victim in the ongoing criminal case. Authorities have not publicly released updated information about the child’s current condition.
Pasunuri is being held at the Wake County Detention Center on a $200,000 secured bond. As a condition of any release, a judge has ordered that he have no contact with the child.
The case remains under investigation. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the alleged assault.
Pasunuri is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
