Atlanta, GA, September 9, 2026 — Gwinnett County high school senior Anannya Aneesh is headed to the world stage after helping the USA Women’s Under-19 cricket team qualify for the 2027 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
A senior at Mountain View High School and a member of the USA Women’s U19 Cricket Team, Anannya was part of the squad that swept all six of its matches at the 2026 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier, held in the Cayman Islands in August.
The successful campaign secured the United States a place in the 2027 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal. It will mark the USA’s third consecutive appearance at the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
“It feels amazing to be part of the team that helped qualify USA to the U19 World Cup because it’s been my dream for so long,” Anannya said in a Gwinnett County Public Schools release. “I’ve always strived toward representing the country on the world stage and I’m glad that I could be part of the team while accomplishing such a huge feat.”
Anannya’s interest in cricket began at home, watching Indian Premier League matches with her father. She started playing the sport at age 11 and has since developed a demanding training schedule, practicing three to four days a week while balancing her schoolwork.
She credits cricket not only with giving her an opportunity to compete at an elite level, but also with shaping her off the field.
“The thing I most enjoy about it is that it helped me meet so many new people and make so many friends with whom I am still close with today,” she said. “I also love that it has taught me so many lessons such as teamwork and perseverance which I could not have learned anywhere else.”
For now, Anannya is juggling her senior year at Mountain View High School with preparations for the biggest tournament of her young career. She plans her homework and school projects around her cricket schedule to make time for both.
Her ambitions extend beyond the World Cup. According to GCPS, Anannya plans to continue playing cricket after high school and intends to move to India after graduation to pursue the sport there.
Before then, she has two major goals ahead: graduating from Gwinnett County Public Schools and representing the United States at the 2027 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
