India-Born Leaders Top Forbes List of America’s Most Successful Immigrants

BY VEENA RAO

When Forbes unveiled its inaugural Immigrant 250 list honoring America’s most successful living immigrants, one country stood above all others: India.

The list, released as part of Forbes’ America 250 initiative ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary, celebrates foreign-born individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to business, technology, science, entertainment, and public life in the United States. Among the 250 honorees, India emerged as the most represented country of birth, reflecting the outsized impact of Indian immigrants on the American story.

The ranking includes some of the most influential leaders in global business and technology, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, venture capitalist Vinod Khosla, cybersecurity entrepreneur Jay Chaudhry, former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora, and semiconductor pioneer Vinod Dham.

Vinod Khosla, co-founder of Sun Microsystems and founder of Khosla Ventures, was among the highest-ranked Indian-born honorees on the list. Other prominent names include investor and entrepreneur Naval Ravikant, venture capitalist Hemant Taneja, and Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra.

Forbes said the list recognizes immigrants whose achievements have helped shape modern America. The honorees span a wide range of fields, from entrepreneurship and finance to medicine, media, and scientific innovation.

The strong Indian presence reflects a broader trend that has transformed the American economy over the past several decades. Indian immigrants have become highly visible in leadership roles across Silicon Valley and corporate America, leading some of the world’s most valuable companies while also founding thousands of businesses that employ millions of Americans.

The recognition comes amid growing attention to the contributions of immigrant communities in the United States. According to Forbes, more than half of the individuals on the Immigrant 250 list are self-made billionaires, while many others have built influential companies, pioneered breakthrough technologies, or reshaped industries.

For the Indian diaspora, the list serves as another reminder of the community’s remarkable journey—from students, engineers, and physicians arriving in the United States in search of opportunity to becoming leaders at the highest levels of American business and innovation.

As America approaches its 250th birthday, Forbes’ ranking highlights a central theme in the nation’s history: that immigrants continue to play a defining role in shaping its future. And among those immigrant success stories, few countries have left a larger imprint than India.
