San Jose, CA, September 14, 2026: A California woman who went viral after accusing a brown father of sex trafficking his own 6-year-old daughter because the two had different skin tones has been arrested on suspicion of stalking and hate crimes, San Jose police said.
The 47-year-old woman, identified in multiple media reports as Lindsay Hansen, was arrested Sept. 10 and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for multiple alleged offenses, including stalking and hate crimes. San Jose police have not publicly released the suspect’s name, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The arrest came days after video of Hansen’s confrontation with the father and his young daughter in San Jose’s Almaden neighborhood spread widely on social media.
Police said officers responded to a report of a hate-motivated incident in the 6400 block of Aspen Creek on Sept. 6. Investigators said the woman approached the father and child in her vehicle multiple times and made discriminatory remarks.
The father, who has asked media outlets not to identify him, described himself as brown and his daughter as half-white.
According to his account, he was walking along a pedestrian and bike trail while his daughter rode her bicycle ahead of him when the woman first approached the child. She then drove up to the father and asked whether he was “buying or selling.”
The father told KRON4 that the woman later returned and questioned whether he was legally in the United States. He began recording the encounter.
In the widely shared video, the woman can be heard saying she worked “with the feds” and was making sure the man was not sex trafficking the girl because she did not look like him.
“That’s a white little girl and you are a man of color,” she said, before telling him she believed he was “either buying or selling or trafficking this child.”
She also claimed to have access to facial recognition technology.
The father said the woman attempted to engage with his daughter again before driving away. She later returned once more, quoted Psalm 101:8 and told the father, “Burn in hell, you will.”
Police said they used automated license plate reader cameras to identify the vehicle associated with the incident and the suspect.
But what began as an investigation into the confrontation with the father and daughter soon widened.
Investigators said they discovered that the same woman was allegedly responsible for a series of other incidents in San Jose, including one at a South San Jose high school on Sept. 9. Detectives with the San Jose Police Department’s Assaults Unit launched what police described as a comprehensive investigation into the reported incidents before locating and arresting the woman.
The San Jose Unified School District had separately alerted families that an unauthorized woman had allegedly been harassing members of the school community, recording people and posting the material on social media. Media reports said the woman was also accused of entering a high school girls’ locker room and filming there while making allegations against school staff.
The district said it was working with police to determine how the woman gained access to the locker room.
The case attracted widespread attention because the trafficking accusation against the father appeared explicitly tied to race. The woman did not merely question whether the child belonged with him; in the recorded encounter, she specifically contrasted the girl being white with the father being “a man of color.”
Police subsequently characterized the incident as “hate-motivated” and said the woman made discriminatory remarks toward the father and child.
Media reports have also uncovered a documented history of mental health problems involving Hansen. KTVU reported that her family reported her missing in 2022 and that a relative told police at the time she was experiencing “significant mental health issues.” Other reports citing court records said she was involuntarily hospitalized during that period.
Those circumstances provide additional background to the case but do not determine whether she is legally responsible for the conduct alleged in the current investigation.
Police have not announced evidence supporting the woman’s accusation that the father was trafficking his daughter. The father has said the child is his daughter, and the racial difference that prompted the accusation is consistent with his description of himself as brown and his daughter as biracial.
The San Jose Police Department said its investigation remains active and ongoing and has asked anyone with information about the incidents to contact its Assaults Unit.
Hansen has not been convicted of any crime. The stalking, hate-crime and other allegations cited by police remain accusations unless proven in court.
