Air India Trims US Flight Schedule Amid Safety Checks, Middle East Airspace Challenges

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Washington, D.C., June 19, 2025 – Air India has announced a temporary reduction in its international flight schedule, including several U.S. routes, as it undertakes enhanced safety checks on its Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft and adjusts for longer flight times caused by Middle East airspace closures.

The schedule changes will be in effect from June 21 to at least July 15, 2025, and are aimed at restoring operational stability and minimizing last-minute disruptions for passengers.

North America Routes Affected:

  • Delhi–Toronto: Reduced from 13 to 7 flights per week
  • Delhi–Vancouver: Reduced from 7 to 5 flights per week
  • Delhi–San Francisco: Reduced from 10 to 7 flights per week
  • Delhi–Chicago: Reduced from 7 to 3 flights per week
  • Delhi–Washington Dulles: Reduced from 5 to 3 flights per week

Other International Routes Also Impacted:

Suspended routes until July 15:

  • Delhi–Nairobi
  • Amritsar–London (Gatwick)
  • Goa (Mopa)–London (Gatwick)

Reduced frequencies to Europe:

  • Delhi–London (Heathrow), Paris, Milan, Amsterdam, Vienna, Copenhagen, and Birmingham
  • Bengaluru–London (Heathrow)
  • Amritsar–Birmingham

Australia:

  • Delhi–Melbourne and Delhi–Sydney services cut from 7 to 5 weekly

Far East:

  • Delhi–Tokyo (Haneda) and Delhi–Seoul (Incheon) also see reductions

In a statement shared on social media, Air India said the temporary cuts were the result of a “voluntary decision to undertake enhanced pre-flight safety checks” and to accommodate extended flight times due to regional airspace closures.

The airline apologized to affected passengers and said it is proactively contacting them to offer options such as re-accommodation on alternate flights, complimentary rescheduling, or full refunds.

Updated schedules are being made available progressively on Air India’s website (www.airindia.com), mobile app, and customer service centers. The airline emphasized that safety remains its highest priority and pledged to restore the full schedule as soon as conditions allow.
