Atlanta, GA, August 28, 2026 — What began as a community tennis league two years ago has grown into a network of hundreds of players who come together not only to compete, but also to build friendships and professional connections.
Desi Open Tennis (DOT), launched in July 2024, has reached its fifth season, with organizers saying approximately 400 players now participate in its activities each year.
The league brings together players of different ages, professions and skill levels, offering them an opportunity to stay active while playing competitive tennis in a community setting.
Organizers say the idea behind DOT was to create an environment where tennis could serve as a common ground for people who might otherwise never meet.
Its participants include entrepreneurs, business owners and professionals working in technology, healthcare, real estate and other fields. Those interactions have led to friendships and, in some cases, professional networking and career connections beyond the tennis court.
Fitness remains a central part of the league’s mission. By providing regular opportunities to practice and compete, DOT encourages players to make physical activity part of their routine while developing their tennis skills.
The league also places an emphasis on player development. More experienced players and team captains work with teammates on strategy, doubles communication and match play, creating an environment that combines competition with peer support.
The growing level of competition within the community has also produced results beyond the league. According to DOT, one team from its player community has advanced to compete at the USTA National Championship level.
Organizers view the achievement as an example of how recreational and community tennis can provide a pathway to more competitive levels of the sport.
But DOT measures its progress by more than match results. Organizers say they also look at whether players become more active, improve their game, develop confidence and form lasting personal and professional relationships.
Now in Season 5, the league credits its growth to its players, captains, volunteers, sponsors and supporters.
As DOT looks ahead, organizers say the goal is to continue expanding a tennis community that balances competition with fitness, friendship and connection.
