Husband Blamed ICE for Wife’s Disappearance. Her Burned Remains Were Found Days Later

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Sacramento, CA, October 17, 2026: A 28-year-old man in California has been arrested on murder charges after allegedly claiming that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had detained his missing wife, whose burned remains were later identified in a neighboring county.

Gurinder Gill was arrested on October 14 in connection with the death of his wife, 30-year-old Jasmine Gill, also known as Jasmine Aujla Gill, following an investigation by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a statement released by the sheriff’s office, Jasmine was last seen at her Sacramento residence on September 30. Her cousin reported her missing on October 4, prompting an investigation into her disappearance.

During the initial investigation, Gurinder told detectives that ICE agents had taken Jasmine into custody while she was checking the mail at their residence.

However, when detectives contacted ICE to verify his account, the federal agency confirmed that no immigration enforcement activity had occurred at the residence.

As investigators examined the circumstances surrounding Jasmine’s disappearance, they identified several inconsistencies in her husband’s statements. Detectives also learned that the couple was involved in an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute.

Meanwhile, on October 1, three days before Jasmine was officially reported missing, burned human remains had been discovered in neighboring El Dorado County. Authorities subsequently confirmed that the remains belonged to Jasmine.

The sheriff’s office has not disclosed how Jasmine died, where exactly her remains were discovered, or what evidence linked her husband to the killing.

Based on the findings of their investigation, homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gurinder on a murder charge.

On Wednesday, October 14, detectives located and arrested him. Investigators also executed search warrants at two residences associated with him.

Gurinder was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on murder charges and is being held without bail.

According to local media reports, Gurinder, whose full name is Gurinder Singh Gill, appeared in Sacramento Superior Court on Friday, October 16, for his arraignment.

Indian media reports have identified the couple as being of Punjabi origin. However, authorities have not released details about their immigration status or how long they had lived in the United States.

The investigation remains ongoing.
