Come to Chutneys Brings South Indian Favorites to North Georgia

BY ASIM RAO*

Although Come to Chutneys has been open in North Atlanta for a few months, we finally had the opportunity to visit after hearing several glowing recommendations from friends – and the experience fully lived up to the hype.

On a packed Friday evening, the restaurant was buzzing with families, students, and food lovers eager to sample its growing menu of traditional South Indian favorites. Despite the crowd, the service was impressively quick and efficient, with dishes arriving promptly throughout the meal.

The standout dishes of the evening were undoubtedly the Rava Masala Dosa and the Benne Dosa – both had the perfect golden texture that most other restaurants in the area miss out on. Unlike many places where the filling feels like an afterthought, the potato masala here was flavorful, well-seasoned, and comforting without being overly heavy. Every bite delivered the kind of authenticity that instantly transports diners to a classic Bengaluru dosa spot.

Most of the Dosas are served with three delicious chutneys – coconut chutney, peanut chutney, and tomato chutney – along with piping hot sambar. Each chutney brought its own unique flavor profile to the table. The coconut chutney was smooth and refreshing, the peanut chutney added a rich nutty depth, and the tomato chutney delivered a bold spicy kick. The sambar itself was flavorful and hearty, though slightly hotter than our family’s preferred spice level.

The surprise favorite of the evening may have been the Gobi Manchurian. Perfectly crispy cauliflower florets coated in a flavorful Indo-Chinese sauce made this one of the best versions we have had in the area. The balance of spice, sweetness, and smoky wok flavor stood out immediately.

The restaurant itself features a modern and lively atmosphere with bright lighting, contemporary décor, and a welcoming open dining layout that creates a vibrant community feel. From dosas and street-style appetizers to rice dishes and beverages, the menu offers something for both longtime South Indian food lovers and newcomers exploring the cuisine.

For anyone searching for authentic crispy dosas, Come to Chutneys is quickly establishing itself as a must-visit destination.
