Los Rios in Cumming: Delicious, Authentic Mexican Cuisine With a Large Choice of Vegetarian Entrees

BY ASIM RAO

Every once in a while, you stumble upon a Mexican restaurant that serves delicious, affordable food—so good, you can’t help but recommend it to friends and colleagues.

Los Rios Mexican Restaurant in Cumming, GA, is one such place. With ample indoor and outdoor seating, it’s a welcoming spot for any occasion.

The restaurant has won the Best of Forsyth award for ten years in a row, so we had high expectations going in. Opened in 2009, it has been family-owned and operated ever since.

The waitstaff are exceptionally friendly and offer genuine recommendations when asked about the menu.

We visited on a Saturday during lunch. The restaurant was about half full, but the aroma of food filled the air and instantly made us hungrier.

Inside, the seating was comfortable, and there were some outdoor tables available as well. The staff were cheerful, and the overall vibe was festive and warm.

The menu is extensive, offering a wide variety of dishes, including several vegetarian options for our vegetarian friends.

To our surprise, the waiter already knew what we wanted to drink—water with no ice—which was a delightful touch.

We were served chips and salsa to start, and they were easily the best we’ve had in a long time. The chips were crisp and flavorful, and the salsa tasted freshly made.

Our waiter recommended the sizzling family fajita platter, priced at $41.99 for a family of four. While it looked tempting, it felt like too much food for us.

Instead, we ordered a mix of enchiladas, burritos, and a kid’s nachos. The portions were generous, even for the kids’ menu, where most items were priced at just $5.50.

The enchilada sauce was rich and flavorful. If you’re ordering a chicken entrée, I’d recommend requesting marinated and grilled or fried chicken instead of shredded chicken, as some dishes offer this option.

The highlight of the meal was the burrito al pastor. It featured well-marinated pork and was topped with a delicious al pastor sauce—absolutely outstanding.

Most entrées come with rice, beans, and lettuce, making them hearty and satisfying. With prices ranging between $10 and $12, the meals offer great value for money.

Los Rios is also known for its mouth-watering tacos, sizzling fajitas, and the best margaritas in town.

Buen provecho! (Which means “Enjoy your meal” in Spanish.)
