Man Arrested After Unprovoked Park Attack on 3-Year-Old

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

San Antonio, TX, April 24, 2026: A 24-year-old man identified as Atharva Vyas has been arrested after what police described as a random and violent attack on a mother and her 3-year-old daughter at a South Side park earlier this month.

The incident occurred on April 18 at Espada Park, where San Antonio police said Vyas allegedly approached 27-year-old Gabriella Perez and punched her, causing her to fall and drop her child. Authorities allege that he then grabbed the toddler and bit her in the face, causing serious injuries.

The child was rushed to a hospital for treatment. According to local media reports citing the mother, the girl lost two teeth in the attack. Her condition has not been publicly updated.

Perez told local outlets that she did not know the suspect and that the attack appeared to be unprovoked. A bystander intervened and restrained Vyas until officers arrived at the scene.

Vyas was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury and assault causing bodily injury. Records cited by local reports also indicate an immigration-related charge of illegal entry from a foreign nation.

Authorities have not released further details about a possible motive. The case remains under investigation.
