San Jose, CA, July 21, 2026: Two brothers from India were taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after appearing for a Refugee/Asylee Family Petition interview at a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office in San Jose, according to a statement released by USCIS on social media.
In its post, USCIS said one of the brothers had “multiple felony firearms charges and reckless driving offenses,” while the other had “prior firearm offenses and a previous arrest for involvement in a major vehicle theft operation.” The agency said the arrests followed “thorough vetting” conducted by its San Jose field office during the immigration interview.
The interview was related to a Refugee/Asylee Family Petition, commonly known as Form I-730, which allows certain refugees and asylees in the United States to petition for qualifying family members to join them in the country.
USCIS did not identify the brothers, disclose their immigration status beyond the pending petition, or provide details about the criminal cases, including the jurisdictions where the alleged offenses occurred. The agency also did not indicate whether the charges had resulted in convictions.
ICE has not, as of publication, released a separate statement providing additional information about the arrests or any removal proceedings.
The case is part of a series of recent social media posts by USCIS highlighting immigration enforcement actions taken in coordination with ICE under the Trump administration’s enhanced vetting and enforcement initiatives.
