Atlanta, GA, February 18, 2025 – Shania Correia, a student of Innovation Academy in Alpharetta, has been officially inducted as the Youth Commissioner for Fulton County (FCYC) for 2025, a recognition of her dedication to community service, leadership, and advocacy for young people.
The induction ceremony took place at the Fulton County Government Center, located at 141 Pryor Street in Atlanta, where officials, proud parents, friends, and community members gathered to celebrate the new cohort of youth leaders. The event was part of the Board of Commissioners meeting, during which 28 outstanding high school students were recognized for their commitment to serving as youth advocates, addressing key issues, and working toward solutions for their peers.

Shania’s mother expressed immense pride in her daughter’s accomplishment, stating, “This is an exciting and well-deserved recognition of her dedication, leadership, and passion for making a positive impact on her community.” She highlighted Shania’s long-standing commitment to social causes, youth empowerment, and civic engagement, which have paved the way for this honor.
Serving as Youth Commissioner is a significant responsibility, requiring Shania to advocate for the needs of young residents while collaborating with policymakers.
The FCYC is a leadership program for outstanding high school students in Fulton County, Georgia, with a primary purpose of advocacy for children and youth issues. Youth Commissioners volunteer as many as 20 hours per month for planning meetings and community projects and over 120 hours on an annual basis. The program empowers participants to become involved in the local government process as it pertains to youth-related legislation, policies, and programming.
The FCYC explores various problems of today’s youth and voices their opinions to the Fulton County Board of Commissioners regarding the best possible solutions. The program is designed to strengthen the participant’s leadership skills, increase interest in human services, and create a means for communication between community leaders and Fulton County youth.
