Sankara Nethralaya Appoints Lakshmi Narasimha Vasan as Mega Donor and Advisory Board Member

Los Angeles, July 15, 2026: Sankara Nethralaya has announced the appointment of Mr. Lakshmi Narasimha Vasan as a Mega Donor and member of its Advisory Board, recognizing his outstanding professional achievements and long-standing commitment to philanthropy.

The announcement was made during a virtual meeting attended by the Sankara Nethralaya USA leadership team, members of the Board of Advisors, and Sankara Nethralaya India President, Dr. Girish Rao. The gathering also acknowledged the generous contributions of Mr. Vasan and his spouse, Dr. Brinda Subramanian, as well as Mr. Vasan’s acceptance of a pivotal advisory role within the organization.

The session was chaired by Mr. Bala Reddy Indurti, President of Sankara Nethralaya USA, who formally welcomed Mr. Vasan and introduced him and his family to the Advisory Board. He expressed appreciation for Mr. Vasan’s willingness to support the organization in this leadership capacity.

Mr. Vasan was born in Pasoor, near Erode in Tamil Nadu, and raised in Hyderabad. He earned his engineering degree from Osmania University before moving to the United States in 1981 to pursue higher studies. Over the course of his career, he established himself as a successful businessman, most recently serving as Chief Executive Officer of Royal Kitchen Equipment Company in Southern California.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Vasan has a distinguished sporting background. Prior to relocating to the United States, he was a first-class cricketer in India and captained the Hyderabad Ranji Trophy team. Under his leadership, the team included several notable players such as N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Shivlal Yadav. Mr. Vasan also participated in international-level matches and shared the field with celebrated cricketers including Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Syed Kirmani, and S. Venkataraghavan.

Mr. Vasan married Dr. Brinda Subramanian, a distinguished scholar in physics, in 1988. The couple has two children: Dr. Karthik Vasan, a Ph.D. graduate in medical research, and Ms. Mayuri Vasan, an accomplished Carnatic vocalist.

A dedicated philanthropist, Mr. Vasan has actively supported numerous charitable initiatives in both India and the United States. Most recently, he has committed to funding a fully equipped Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) for Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, to help eliminate preventable blindness in the region. He has also played a key role in supporting and facilitating MESU eye camps in Tamil Nadu, significantly expanding access to essential eye care services.

Acharya; Padma Bhushan Dr. Jag Sheth; Shri Prasad Reddy Katamreddy; Dr. Raj Modi; Dr. Kishore Chivukula; Shri Udaya Bhasker Ganti; Mr. Shyam Appali; Mr. Moorthy Rekapalli; Mr. Vamsikrishna Eruvaram, and Dr. Reddy Urimindi expressed their appreciation for the Vasan family’s generous contributions and continued service to the mission of Sankara Nethralaya.
