Washington, D.C., February 13, 2025 – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Washington, D.C., for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening U.S.-India relations. He was warmly welcomed by members of the Indian diaspora outside Blair House, where he is staying during his visit.
Modi is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump today, February 13, 2025, at the White House. The meeting is set to begin at 4:05 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST) and is expected to last until 4:50 PM EST. Following their bilateral discussions, a joint press conference is planned from 5:10 PM to 5:40 PM EST. The day’s events will conclude with a dinner hosted by President Trump from 5:40 PM to 6:40 PM EST.
One of the key topics on the agenda is trade. The U.S. has been pressing for a more balanced trade relationship, and Modi is expected to discuss ways to increase imports of American goods, including oil and gas. India has already taken steps such as lowering duties on some imports and purchasing more U.S. military equipment.
Defense agreements are also expected to be part of the discussions. India may increase purchases of liquefied natural gas, combat vehicles, and jet engines from the U.S. In exchange, India seeks relief from tariffs imposed on Indian steel and aluminum.
Another important issue to be addressed is immigration. India recently accepted a U.S. flight carrying undocumented Indian migrants, signaling cooperation on immigration matters. The two leaders may discuss further steps regarding Indian migrants in the U.S.
This visit highlights the continued efforts of both countries to deepen their partnership and address mutual concerns. The outcomes of the talks are expected to shape future U.S.-India relations in key economic and strategic areas.
