Atlanta, GA, April 24, 2025:The National Federation of Indian American Associations (NFIA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis, calling it a “profound loss for our world.”
In a heartfelt statement issued on behalf of its Board of Directors, Rev. Younis Farhat and members of NFIA joined global leaders from diverse faiths and backgrounds in mourning the Pope’s death. The organization praised the late Pontiff’s humility, courage, and steadfast commitment to justice and human dignity.
“In his life and ministry, he faithfully followed in Christ’s footsteps and the messages of Lincoln, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr.,” the statement read. “He emphasized forgiveness, challenged the powerful, comforted the afflicted, and championed the cause of the oppressed.”
The NFIA acknowledged the worldwide impact of Pope Francis’s leadership, noting that millions across the globe are united in grief, but also in gratitude for his extraordinary example.
“May his legacy continue to inspire us all to work faithfully for the causes he cherished with courage and compassion,” the organization added.
The NFIA concluded its message with a prayer: “May his soul rest in peace.”
The National Federation of Indian American Associations is one of the oldest and largest umbrella organizations representing Indian Americans across the United States.
