Music composer and digital instrumentalist Navneeth Sundar marked World Music Day with the release of his new single, Move Like Mohana Kalyani, a pop-fusion track rooted in the Carnatic raga Mohana Kalyani. The song blends Indian classical elements with modern pop and electronic production.
Sundar, known for his work in Indian cinema and for popularizing Carnatic music on digital instruments such as the iPad, has composed, written, and performed the track. With this release, he takes on a new role as a pop artist while continuing to draw from his classical music background.
The lyrics explore the theme of the feminine as a cosmic force, and the song features additional vocals by Carnatic singer Vidya Kalyanaraman.
The music video, also released on June 21, stars Bharatanatyam dancer Kavya Muralidaran in two roles — a classical Shakti-inspired figure and a contemporary woman. Directed by Sundar, the video aims to visually reflect the blend of traditional and modern influences present in the song.
Sundar has previously composed music for films such as Karmayogi, Buddy, and Guppedantha Prema. He has built a significant online following, with over 2 million annual streams on Spotify.
Move Like Mohana Kalyani is now available on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
