Washington, DC, April 29, 2025: Officials from India and the United States reported “positive progress” following a three-day round of discussions on the India-U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement, held in Washington, D.C. from April 23 to 25. The meetings mark a continuation of negotiations aimed at deepening economic cooperation between the two nations.
The Indian delegation from the Department of Commerce met with representatives from the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, building on momentum from earlier talks in New Delhi in March.
According to an official statement, the discussions covered a wide range of tariff and non-tariff issues. Both sides expressed optimism about concluding the first phase of the comprehensive, multi-sector agreement by fall 2025. Officials also explored opportunities for early, mutually beneficial outcomes in select sectors.
While sectoral discussions have been taking place virtually, in-person expert-level engagements are scheduled to begin by the end of May.
The ongoing trade talks are in line with the Leaders’ Statement issued in February 2025, which emphasized stronger India-U.S. economic ties and deeper supply chain integration. The upcoming months are expected to witness increased engagement as both nations work toward a landmark agreement poised to reshape bilateral trade dynamics.
