Congressman Shri Thanedar Introduces Articles of Impeachment Against Trump

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Detroit, MI, April 29, 2025: Congressman Shri Thanedar (D-MI) on Monday introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump, alleging a broad abuse of power and violations of the U.S. Constitution. The resolution outlines seven articles citing what Thanedar describes as acts that “undermine American democracy and threaten the rule of law.”

“Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as President and represents a clear and present danger to our nation’s Constitution and our democracy,” Thanedar said in a statement. “Congress must act.”

The articles introduced in the resolution include:

  • Obstruction of Justice and Abuse of Executive Power: Alleging interference with judicial processes, unlawful deportations, and misuse of the Department of Justice.
  • Usurpation of Appropriations Power: Citing the dismantling of congressionally mandated agencies and improper control of federal funds.
  • Abuse of Trade Powers and International Aggression: Referencing economically disruptive tariffs and threats of military action against other nations.
  • Violation of First Amendment Rights: Pointing to alleged retaliatory behavior against media, critics, and legal professionals.
  • Creation of an Unlawful Office: Accusing Trump of forming a fictional Department of Government Efficiency and improperly empowering individuals, including Elon Musk.
  • Bribery and Corruption: Including allegations of dismissing criminal charges and accepting foreign emoluments for personal or political gain.
  • Tyrannical Overreach: Claiming attempts to erode civil liberties and exceed constitutional limits on presidential authority.

Thanedar emphasized that the effort was not about political partisanship but about accountability. “This is about protecting our democracy and ensuring that no one, not even a President, is above the law,” he said.

The resolution is expected to face significant challenges in the Republican-controlled House, where support for impeachment is unlikely to gain traction. Nonetheless, the move signals Thanedar’s firm stance against what he views as authoritarian overreach and his broader commitment to democratic principles.

Congressman Thanedar, a first-generation Indian American and former entrepreneur, has positioned himself as a progressive voice in Congress, advocating for economic opportunity, healthcare access, and government accountability.
