Washington, D.C., Feb. 14, 2025 — Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has been appointed Director of National Intelligence, making history as the first Hindu American to serve in a U.S. Cabinet position. The Hindu Students Council (HSC) has lauded this milestone, calling it a proud moment for the Hindu-American community.
“As young Hindu Americans, we are incredibly proud to witness Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard’s appointment,” said Sohini Sircar, Chairperson of HSC. “Her leadership and unwavering commitment to dharma serves as an inspiring example for Hindu youth and students across the United States.”
Gabbard, who previously served as a U.S. Representative from Hawaii, has been a prominent advocate for service, peace, and inclusion. In 2012, she became the first Hindu elected to Congress and has since been a role model for many young Hindu Americans. In 2020, she addressed HSC’s Virtual Commencement Ceremony, where she spoke about leadership, resilience, and staying true to one’s values—an address that continues to inspire students.
Riddhi Patel, President of HSC, emphasized the significance of Gabbard’s leadership. “She serves the community while remaining grounded in dharma and seva, setting an example for the next generation of Hindu leaders,” Patel said.
HSC, one of North America’s largest Hindu youth organizations, commended Gabbard’s historic appointment and expressed optimism about her leadership in national security. The organization remains dedicated to empowering young Hindu leaders through education, cultural events, and community service initiatives.
