Consulate celebrates India’s Republic Day with grand reception at Sandy Springs City Hall

Atlanta, GA, January 31, 2025: The Consul General of India, Atlanta hosted a grand reception to mark India’s Republic Day, bringing together a diverse group of elected officials, government officials, university faculty and administrators, businessmen, entrepreneurs, and prominent community members. Held at the Sandy Springs City Hall on Jan 27, 2025, the event celebrated India’s rich cultural heritage, democratic values, and the significance of Republic Day, which commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution. The reception was a memorable occasion, featuring inspiring speeches, traditional performances, and a sense of unity that showcased the strong ties between India and the local community in Atlanta.

“Looking ahead, as we step into New Year, let us resolve to further strengthen the bond between India and the United States. Together, we can build a future, defined by innovation, sustainability and shared possibility,” Consul General of India, Atlanta, Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan said in his address. He highlighted the importance of the Indian Constitution in shaping the nation’s progress and unity, emphasizing values such as justice, liberty, and equality. “The constitution provides the ultimate foundation of collective identity as Indians. It binds all Indians together as a family.”

Hon. Lakshmanan reflected on India’s economic growth, self-sufficiency in food production, infrastructure development, and leadership in global affairs, including space exploration and digital transformation. He underscored the strong and growing India-U.S. relationship, marked by trade, defense collaborations, and emerging technologies.

The consulate’s efforts to support the Indian-American community through streamlined services, student initiatives, and business facilitation were also accentuated. His address concluded with a call for continued collaboration, innovation, and unity between India and the U.S.” Let us celebrate Republic Day with pride, unity, and renewed commitment to our collective goals.”

U.S. Senator John Ossoff extended his greetings on the occasion, recognizing the significance of the Indian Constitution and the strong ties between India, the U.S., and Georgia. “I know that US India relations are crucial to the future of our nation and to the world. This is one of the most important bilateral relationships in American foreign policy. and relations between the state of Georgia and India are crucial to the state of Georgia and to our success,” Sen. Ossoff noted, emphasizing the importance of U.S.-India relations in global and state success. He highlighted his recent delegation to India to further strengthen these ties. He also expressed gratitude to Georgia’s Indian-American community for their contributions and assured them of his support.

Cultural performances by Kalaivani Dance Academy, Balli’s Dance Studio and Bharathakala Dance Academy enthralled the audience. The night concluded with a sumptuous spread of Indian delicacies.

The main event was held along the Kartavya Path, featuring a spectacular parade that showcased the country’s military strength, cultural diversity, and technological advancements. The parade included colorful tableaux representing various states, performances by thousands of artists demonstrating over 45 different dance forms, and impressive motorbike stunts by army daredevils. A highlight of the event was the participation of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, marking their first appearance in the parade. The air show featured formations by Indian Air Force fighter jets, captivating the audience. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat Aur Vikas” (Golden India – Heritage and Development), reflecting India’s rich cultural heritage and its ongoing journey of progress. The event was graced by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the chief guest. Similar celebrations, including flag-hoisting ceremonies and cultural programs, were held in various cities and towns across the country, fostering a sense of unity and national pride.
