Rideshare Driver Charged With Raping Unconscious Passenger

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Ventura County, CA, December 19, 2025: A Bakersfield man who worked as a rideshare driver has been charged with raping an unconscious passenger following a late-night pickup in Ventura County, according to prosecutors.

Simranjit Singh Sekhon, 35, is charged with rape of an unconscious person and an additional allegation that the victim was particularly vulnerable, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said.

Prosecutors allege that Sekhon, an Uber driver, picked up a 21-year-old woman outside a bar in Thousand Oaks at about 1 a.m. on November 27, 2025, after she requested a ride home to Camarillo.

According to charging documents, the woman was intoxicated and fell asleep during the ride. Instead of ending the trip at the intended destination, prosecutors allege that Sekhon continued driving around Camarillo and sexually assaulted the woman while she was unconscious.

The case was investigated by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. Sekhon was arrested on December 15 in Los Angeles County.

Court records show that Sekhon has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is being held on $500,000 bail, and an early disposition conference has been scheduled for December 29, 2025.

The charges are allegations, and Sekhon is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
