41 Insurance Companies Cut Rates in Georgia, Saving Policyholders Over $500 Million, Lawmakers Say

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Atlanta, GA, October 27, 2026: Forty-one insurance companies have reduced their rates in Georgia this year, providing more than $500 million in savings to drivers, homeowners and businesses, according to an announcement by Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns and State Rep. Matt Reeves of Duluth.

The rate reductions affect more than 3.6 million policyholders across the state, according to information provided to the lawmakers by Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King.

Burns and Reeves attributed the reductions to the work of the bipartisan House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates and House Bill 1344, known as the Insurance Affordability Act, which was aimed at addressing rising insurance costs in Georgia.

“Thanks to the work of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates, Rep. Matt Reeves and Insurance Commissioner John King, Georgia is leading to drive down insurance rates for hardworking families, drivers and businesses across the state,” Burns said in a statement.

Reeves, who represents House District 99 in Gwinnett County, said some residents are already seeing substantial savings when renewing their insurance policies.

“I heard from a young, single driver that he is saving $1,200 per year and from a family that they are saving $6,000 a year in their recent policy renewal,” Reeves said. “Georgians can now shop around and save money, while rates are still going up in other states.”

The companies reporting rate reductions include major insurers such as State Farm, Progressive, Liberty Mutual, Allstate, Nationwide, USAA, Auto-Owners Insurance, Travelers and Georgia Farm Bureau, along with several smaller insurance providers.

The reductions cover auto, homeowners and business insurance, although the announcement did not specify how much each company lowered its rates or how the savings are divided among the three categories.

The $500 million figure represents savings that consumers have already received or are expected to receive during 2026, according to the lawmakers. The announcement did not provide details on how the total savings were calculated.

While the reductions could provide relief to Georgia residents struggling with rising living expenses, the actual savings for individual policyholders will vary depending on their insurance company, coverage, location and other factors.

The announcement also did not indicate whether all existing customers of the listed companies would benefit from lower premiums or whether the reductions would apply only to certain policies.

Reeves said the House study committee had worked across party lines and traveled throughout Georgia to address concerns about insurance affordability.

“The House Insurance Rate Study Committee worked across the state and across the aisle to make insurance more affordable for hardworking Georgians, and the people of Georgia are seeing the results,” he said.

The announcement comes as insurance costs remain a concern for Georgia households and businesses. The lawmakers encouraged consumers to compare policies from different companies to determine whether they could obtain lower rates.

Reeves, first elected to the Georgia House in 2022, serves on the House Insurance Committee and is vice chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
