Bandon, OR, August 12, 2025: Indian-American golfer Megha Ganne etched her name into the record books on Sunday, capturing the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship with a decisive 4 & 3 victory over Brooke Biermann at the prestigious Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
The 21-year-old rising senior at Stanford University, from Holmdel, New Jersey, delivered a composed and clinical performance in the 36-hole final. Under breezy but sunny conditions, Ganne took control in the morning round, winning three consecutive holes between the 12th and 14th to move 3-up at the halfway point. She maintained her momentum in the afternoon, sealing the win on the 33rd hole.
This victory marks the fourth time a Stanford player has lifted the Robert Cox Trophy, placing Ganne alongside past champions Anne Sander, Joanne Pacillo, and Rose Zhang. It also earns her exemptions into the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club and a spot on the 2025 USA Women’s World Amateur Team.
Ganne’s path to the title was far from easy. In a dramatic semifinal, she staged a remarkable comeback from 4-down with seven holes to play against Australia’s Ella Scaysbrook, eventually winning in 19 holes. That resilience was forged over years of near-misses—early exits, a disqualification for an incorrect scorecard, and even a withdrawal from last year’s championship due to food poisoning.
A veteran of 15 USGA championships, Ganne first made headlines at age 17, when she finished tied for 14th and was the low amateur at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open. She began playing golf at age seven, inspired and supported by her parents, Sudha, an endocrinologist, and Hari, an IT entrepreneur, who immigrated from India.
With her first U.S. Women’s Amateur title in hand, Ganne has cemented her reputation as one of the most promising talents in women’s golf. As she prepares for her final collegiate season at Stanford, all eyes will be on how far her game can take her in the professional ranks.
