Texas GOP Chair Abraham George Ousted in Party Convention Vote

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Houston, TX, June 13, 2026 — Abraham George, the Indian-born chairman of the Texas Republican Party, lost his bid for reelection Friday in a surprising upset at the Texas GOP convention, ending a two-year tenure marked by internal party debates over fundraising, grassroots organizing, and party leadership.

George was defeated by Texas GOP Vice Chair D’rinda Randall during voting at the state party convention in Houston. Randall will now lead one of the nation’s largest and most influential Republican state parties as Republicans prepare for the 2026 midterm elections.

George, who was elected party chairman in 2024, had entered the convention seeking a second term. However, dissatisfaction among some delegates over fundraising performance and party operations contributed to growing support for Randall, who campaigned on strengthening grassroots engagement and rebuilding relationships with local party organizations.

The leadership change comes despite Texas Republicans maintaining their dominance in statewide offices and continuing to hold significant influence in state government.

George’s rise within Republican politics had drawn attention from Indian-American communities nationwide. Born in Kerala, India, he immigrated to the United States as a teenager in 1996 and became a U.S. citizen in 2001. A healthcare technology entrepreneur, he became active in Republican politics in Collin County before rising through the party ranks and eventually becoming chairman of the Texas GOP.

His election in 2024 made him one of the highest-ranking Indian-origin Republicans in the United States and one of the most prominent Indian-American figures in conservative politics.

Following the vote, George congratulated Randall and pledged to support the party’s efforts moving forward. Randall is expected to focus on grassroots mobilization and party-building efforts as Texas Republicans prepare for key statewide and congressional races in the coming election cycle.

The Texas Republican Party is one of the largest state party organizations in the country, and its leadership elections are often viewed as indicators of broader political trends within the national Republican movement.
