First International Day of Yoga Held in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA: Community organizations, yoga studios and yoga enthusiasts joined the Consulate General of India in Atlanta to celebrate the first International Day of Yoga on Sunday, June 21 at Heritage Park in Sandy Springs.

The event had an excellent turnout. “We had around 950 participants, excluding the 100 plus volunteers,” said event coordinator Sudhir Agarwal. “The event was supported by over 40 organizations, and had the active participation of 30 organizations.”

Consul General Nagesh Singh, who recently arrived inAtlanta, made his first public appearance at the event. Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul lit the traditional lamp and declared the event open. Other dignitaries included Swami Vijnanananda of VHP America, Yogi Amrut Desai, Dr. Ved Nanda of HSS and Subash Razdan of Gandhi Foundation.
