Warren, MI, April 30, 2025: President Donald Trump on Tuesday launched a verbal attack against U.S. Representative Shri Thanedar (D-MI), dismissing the congressman’s recent move to introduce articles of impeachment as a political stunt and labeling him “a dumb guy” and “a lunatic”.
Speaking before a crowd at Macomb County Community College, Trump reacted to the impeachment resolution filed by Thanedar earlier this week, which accuses the president of multiple constitutional violations and abuse of power.
“Here we go again. They want to impeach me, this lunatic,” Trump said, referring to Thanedar without naming him. “This guy, he said, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, I am going to start the impeachment of Donald Trump.’ What the hell did I do?”
The president also criticized Democratic leadership for not reigning in what he described as extreme elements within the party. “They’ve gone totally crazy, these people. And you know what? They’ve totally lost their confidence. They can’t even tell a lunatic like this dumb guy that said it,” Trump added.
Thanedar, who represents Michigan’s 13th Congressional District — including Detroit, Downriver, and the Grosse Pointes — introduced seven articles of impeachment against Trump on Monday. The charges include obstruction of justice, abuse of executive power, bribery, and violations of the Constitution. Thanedar said the resolution was about protecting democracy and ensuring accountability, not partisanship.
