New York, NY, December 23, 2024: Sriram Krishnan, an Indian-American technologist and venture capitalist, has been appointed as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).
Incoming president Donald Trump announced the appointment, highlighting Krishnan’s significant role in ensuring continued American leadership in AI. Working closely with David Sacks, Krishnan will help shape and coordinate AI policy across the federal government, including collaborating with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Trump noted Krishnan’s extensive background in technology, emphasizing his foundational role in the development of Microsoft’s Windows Azure. Krishnan’s career spans leading product teams at major tech companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo!, and Snap, where he spearheaded innovative projects, including the creation of Facebook Audience Network and driving user growth at Twitter.
Krishnan responded to the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I’m honored to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI working closely with @DavidSacks.”
Born in Chennai, India, Krishnan’s early interest in technology was sparked by his self-taught coding skills. He earned a Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology from SRM Engineering College under Anna University. After starting his career at Microsoft, he rose through the ranks of the tech industry before joining Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a general partner in 2021. He later led the firm’s London office, its first non-U.S. location, focusing on Web3, AI, and other technological advancements.
Krishnan has also been active in international affairs, reportedly playing a role in geopolitical discussions and fostering global partnerships. In 2022, he advised Elon Musk during the acquisition and restructuring of Twitter and was considered a potential candidate for the company’s CEO position.
In addition to his professional achievements, Krishnan is a media personality alongside his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy. The couple co-hosts The Aarthi and Sriram Show, a podcast featuring influential figures from technology, entertainment, and business. The show has garnered significant popularity for its engaging conversations and notable guest list, including Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and A.R. Rahman.
