Suspect arrested in hit-and-run case that left Indian student in coma

Sacramento, CA, March 1, 2025: In a major breakthrough, Sacramento police have arrested 58-year-old Lawrence Gallow in connection with the hit-and-run accident that left Indian student Neelam Shinde in a coma.

Neelam, a 35-year-old postgraduate student at California State University, was struck by a speeding vehicle while walking in Sacramento on February 14. She sustained multiple fractures and a traumatic brain injury and remains in critical condition at UC Davis Medical Center.

According to an update from the Sacramento Police Department, officers and detectives worked tirelessly to identify and locate the suspect. Their investigation led to Gallow’s arrest on felony hit-and-run charges resulting in permanent injury.

Meanwhile, Neelam’s family has been granted emergency visas and is set to travel to the U.S. to be by her side. The Ministry of External Affairs expedited the visa process following an appeal from NCP MP Supriya Sule.
