Atlanta, GA, November 25, 2024: On November 17, 2024, Sankara Nethralaya USA (SN USA) organized a remarkable classical dance program at Denmark High School in Alpharetta with the goal of raising funds for a noble cause—restoring the vision of underserved patients. Thanks to the dedication and generosity of all involved, the event raised an astounding $1,300,000, enabling 20,000 cataract surgeries to be performed.
The success of the event was made possible by the active participation of four renowned classical dance academies from Atlanta and approximately 100 talented students who graced the stage with their performances. Each dance received roaring applause from the audience, a testament to the dedication, discipline, and artistic excellence displayed by the performers.
Heartfelt gratitude goes to the academies, gurus, and students who contributed to making this event a grand success. The evening was a celebration of not just art but also the spirit of community and giving, with every dancer and volunteer playing a vital role in raising funds for those in need.

Felicitations and Highlights
The event commenced with sacred mantras recited by priest Pavan Kumar Kristapati from the Hindu Temple of Atlanta, seeking blessings for the volunteers and donors working to restore vision to underserved patients.
The absence of mega donors Prasada Reddy Katamreddy and his wife, Sobha Reddy, due to the recent passing of Prasada Reddy’s mother, was acknowledged with deep respect. The audience extended prayers for the Sadgati (peace and liberation) of the departed soul. Despite their absence, their generous contribution of $500,000 supports 11 eye camps and the establishment of one Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) in India. Sankara Nethralaya USA announced Prasada Reddy as a Brand Ambassador, with Bala Reddy Indurti and Madhavi Indurti accepting the recognition on their behalf.
Dr. Kishore Chivukula, a member of the SN USA Board of Advisors, made a generous contribution of $100,000, furthering the organization’s mission. Similarly, Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Jagdish Sheth contributed $12,500, sponsoring a MESU Adopt-A-Village eye camp to restore vision for hundreds of poor patients.
T. Ramachandra Reddy from Augusta, GA, pledged $100,000, successfully completing one eye camp in Nandi Vaddeman village of Nagar Kurnool District, Telangana.
Progress and Future Goals
SN USA President Bala Reddy Indurti and Executive Vice President Moorthy Rekapalli elaborated on MESU operations in India and plans to expand services nationwide to reach rural areas. They emphasized their vision of eradicating preventable blindness in underserved communities. Applause echoed for their inspiring leadership and vision.
The Consulate General of India, Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan, graced the event as the Chief Guest, presenting plaques of appreciation to participants and organizers. The audience expressed their admiration for the leadership of Bala Reddy Indurti, who was congratulated for receiving the prestigious Sankara Ratna award.
MESU Impact
Two MESU units have been operational for 15 years in Chennai and Jharkhand, aided by Tata Trust. Recently, a third unit began operations in Hyderabad, successfully organizing 13 ten-day eye camps in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Plans for fourth and fifth units in Puttaparthi (March 2025) and Vizag (August 2025) will extend coverage to nearly one-third of India’s rural villages.
Community Support
The event acknowledged numerous contributors, including Adopt-A-Village sponsors, community leaders, and Atlanta team members. Special mentions include Dr. Narasimha Reddy Urimindi and Shyam Appali for their commendable hosting as Masters of Ceremony, as well as the contributions of singers, photographers, and volunteers.
