Etihad Airways announces nonstop flights to Atlanta

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Atlanta, GA, November 11, 2025: In a significant development for Atlanta’s global connectivity, Etihad Airways announced the launch of a new route directly connecting Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Abu Dhabi, set to begin on July 2, 2025. This move positions Atlanta as a key gateway for travelers heading to the Middle East, South Asia, and beyond.

The route will operate four times weekly using the Airbus A350-1000, a state-of-the-art aircraft featuring 44 business class seats and 327 in economy. With a flight time of approximately 15 hours, it will become Atlanta’s fourth-longest service, following Delta’s routes to Johannesburg and Cape Town, and Ethiopian Airlines’ connection to Addis Ababa. This move also makes Etihad the only Gulf carrier directly serving Atlanta, joining the ranks of Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines.

Etihad’s entry into the Atlanta market reflects the growing demand for connections to South Asia, a significant demographic in the southeastern United States. According to travel data, destinations such as Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru rank among Atlanta’s most frequented international markets. For Indian-American Atlantans, the new route promises a more seamless travel experience, reducing the need for multiple layovers.

“The South Asian community in Atlanta has been eagerly anticipating enhanced air connectivity to the region,” said Rajiv Patel. “Etihad’s presence will provide an alternative to Qatar Airways and European carriers, offering competitive options for family visits, business travel, and tourism.”

Etihad becomes the 12th long-haul carrier operating out of ATL, joining established airlines like British Airways, Lufthansa, and Qatar Airways. The city’s airport, already the world’s busiest by passenger volume, continues to cement its status as a global aviation hub.

The route is expected to thrive by catering to transit passengers, especially those bound for India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Africa.

Etihad’s announcement comes amid heightened competition in Atlanta’s long-haul market. Rival Emirates is reportedly considering adding Atlanta to its network in 2025, potentially creating a direct link to Dubai.

The new service is part of Etihad’s broader expansion strategy, which includes routes to other global destinations like Hanoi, Taipei, and Tunis. Having streamlined operations in recent years, Etihad is now focused on sustainable growth, leveraging its efficient fleet and strategic partnerships.

The flight schedule is as follows:

  • Flight EY13: Departs Abu Dhabi (AUH) at 9:30 AM, arriving in Atlanta (ATL) at 4:30 PM.
  • Flight EY14: Departs Atlanta (ATL) at 10:00 PM, arriving in Abu Dhabi (AUH) at 7:30 AM the following day.
