Sharika Awasthi of GSMST selected for High Museum Teen Team program

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Atlanta, GA, October 23, 2024: Sharika Awasthi, a student at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (GSMST), has been selected to join the 2024-25 Teen Team at the High Museum of Art. She is one of three students from Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) chosen for this competitive program, alongside Ivan Thomas from Collins Hill High School and Milena Woldai from Peachtree Ridge High School.

The Teen Team is composed of 15 high school juniors and seniors who participate in an eight-week summer intensive, followed by monthly meetings throughout the academic year. The program offers students the opportunity to engage with art, culture, and community outreach, with participants gaining behind-the-scenes access to the museum, contributing to public events such as Teen Night, and exploring career paths in the art world.

GCPS Director of Fine Arts David DuBose highlighted the value of the program, stating, “This kind of opportunity helps students connect with their community in meaningful ways while developing valuable skills.” Teen Team members collaborate with museum staff and arts professionals to organize programs for teens, youth, and families. Many participants go on to pursue scholarships, internships, and roles within the museum or broader art community.
