Pediatrician Arrested For Staging Daughter’s Death in Florida

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Oklahoma City, OK, July 3, 2025: Dr. Neha Gupta, a 36-year-old pediatrician from Oklahoma, has been arrested on charges of first-degree murder in the death of her 4-year-old daughter, Aria Talathi. The incident occurred while the family was vacationing in El Portal, Florida.

Authorities say Gupta initially reported that Aria drowned in a pool on June 27, 2025. However, an autopsy revealed no water in the child’s lungs or stomach, indicating that the death was not caused by drowning. Investigators allege that Gupta staged the scene to make it appear as an accidental drowning.

Further details in the investigation noted inconsistencies in Gupta’s account, including the absence of food in the child’s stomach and surveillance footage that did not support the reported timeline. Prosecutors say Gupta took Aria out of state without her ex-husband’s knowledge amid an ongoing custody dispute.

Gupta had filed for sole custody of Aria but was denied and was ordered to pay attorney fees to her ex-husband. She was also terminated from her position at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital in May 2025.

Following her arrest in Oklahoma City, Gupta is awaiting extradition to Florida to face charges. Her legal counsel has stated that the arrest was premature and that a full investigation will reveal the facts of the case.

The case remains under investigation. No trial date has been set.
