NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani receives racist messages after public spat with ex-Trump border czar

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

New York, NY, March 21, 2025: New York State Assemblymember and Democratic NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has received numerous racist and threatening messages following a public exchange with former Trump border policy advisor Tom Homan on March 12, 2025, at the New York State Capitol in Albany.

Mamdani, the son of Indian filmmaker Mira Nair, has been a proponent of immigrant rights and progressive policies. During a recent event, he questioned Homan on immigration enforcement policies, leading to a widely circulated confrontation. In the aftermath, Mamdani’s office reported receiving multiple voicemails containing racial slurs, Islamophobic remarks, and threats.

“These messages are an attempt to silence me,” Mamdani said in a statement. “However, I remain committed to advocating for policies that support all New Yorkers.”

The messages have drawn condemnation from lawmakers and advocacy groups. The New York chapter of the ACLU released a statement calling the attacks unacceptable and emphasizing the need for civil discourse in political debates.

Mamdani, who has centered his campaign on affordability, housing rights, and public transit, has received both support and criticism for his policy positions. Despite the threats, he has stated that his campaign will continue as planned.

The NYPD and federal authorities are reportedly reviewing the threats, though no official statement has been released regarding any potential investigations.

Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda, and raised in New York City. He is the son of acclaimed Indian filmmaker Mira Nair and Ugandan academic Mahmood Mamdani. He attended Bowdoin College, where he studied economics and pursued activism focused on housing and social justice issues.

Mamdami, his father and his mother are Jew haters and Hamas supporters of the worst order. His open anti-Semitism is abhorrent. India should be pleased to be rid of him and his family. Tell me why this should bother me. He and his family are not “moderate Muslims.”
