Mumbai, January 16, 2025 – Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is recovering in Lilavati Hospital after being stabbed by an intruder at his Bandra residence early this morning.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when a burglar entered the actor’s home through a fire escape. Khan, 54, confronted the assailant after the intruder attacked a member of his domestic staff. A scuffle ensued, during which the actor sustained six stab wounds, including two deep injuries, one near his spine.
Dr. Nitin Dange, a neurosurgeon at Lilavati Hospital, confirmed that Khan suffered a major injury to his thoracic spinal cord caused by a knife lodged in his spine. The actor underwent surgery to remove the knife and repair spinal fluid leakage. Khan also required plastic surgery for injuries to his neck and left hand. He is reportedly out of danger and is expected to make a full recovery.
The intruder fled the scene after the attack. Mumbai police have identified the suspect through CCTV footage and launched a manhunt to apprehend him. The domestic staff member injured during the attack is also receiving treatment.
Saif Ali Khan has appeared in more than 70 films in his career spanning 30 years. He is the son of former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and veteran actress Sharmila Tagore and is a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award.
Mumbai police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
