Atlanta,GA, September 6, 2018: Dr. Akhilesh Sharma, Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine, widely recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field of Ayurveda talked to his patrons inAtlantaat the Shiv Mandir in Global Mall this August 21. Shiv Aggarwal, owner of Global Mall welcomed and introduced Dr. Sharma.
Speaking of simple practices such as eating soaked methi seeds every morning to cleanse and refresh the system, Dr. Sharma went on to talk about various cures Ayurveda has to offer. Dr. Sharma cited examples where he had managed to find solutions to medical issues allopathic doctors had given up. He emphasized on the fact that Ayurveda was much about prevention as much as it was about cure. He suggested usage of sesame oil for simple massage each morning, which he said acts as a fine layer of protection. He talked about the use to Arjuna in cardio related issues. Asking Pundit Gyan Prakash Upadhyay to demonstrate some aasanas, Dr. Sharma spoke of the benefits of Vajraasana, which includes promoting digestion and relief from constipation.
Dr. Sharma practices the full range of Ayurveda, including Pancha Karma therapy, a form of massage dealing with medicated oils that treats a wide range of ailments and medical conditions. In 1987, Dr. Sharma graduated from Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from KurukshetraUniversity, has a diploma in Naturopathy from the all India Nature Care Federation, New Delhi, and a Ph.D. in Herbal Medicine in 1992 from VaraneseyaSanskritUniversity, Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Sharma recently earned a diploma in Swedish massage and Shiatsu, familiarizing himself with other modalities of healing popular in the western world.
Dr. Sharma has operated a clinic in New Delhi for the past twelve years, together with his wife Dr. Minakshi Sharma has also served as the chief physician and Director of Research and Development for a leading Indian Ayurvedic pharmaceutical company. For over half a century, the company has manufactured a line of more than 400 Ayurvedic medicines and herbal products.
In 1992, the former President of India honored Dr. Sharma with the Dhanvantrari Award, the most prestigious recognition in the field. He was awarded the Chikitsa Shiromani Award for outstanding contribution to Ayurveda in 1995. In 1994, he co-authored the Pancha Karma Vigyaniayam, recognized as a major text in the field. Dr. Sharma is a frequent serving as a visiting professor for thecollege ofAyurveda inUnited States.
Dr. Sharma served as an Ayurvedic Consultant/Research scholar in theMoolchandHospital, an Ayurvedic Research Establishement that is recognized by the Central council of Indian Medicine, Ministry of Health, Govt. of India.
