Atlanta, GA, August 26, 2026: As he prepares to conclude his tenure in Atlanta, Consul General of India Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan has thanked Indian-American community leaders across the Southeast for their partnership, support and role in strengthening ties between India and the United States.
In a farewell letter dated August 17, CG Lakshmanan expressed his “sincere appreciation” to community organizations for their consistent engagement during his assignment in the Southeastern United States. He said interactions with members of the Indian diaspora across various platforms and occasions had been a privilege and praised the warmth and cooperation extended to the Consulate.
Lakshmanan particularly acknowledged the community’s participation in consular initiatives, outreach efforts and cultural programs, saying these had contributed significantly to the Consulate’s efforts to serve the diaspora.
He also highlighted the assistance provided by community organizations during emergencies and situations requiring timely intervention.
“I am particularly thankful for the support and cooperation extended during consular emergencies and other situations requiring timely assistance,” he wrote, adding that such efforts reflected the Indian diaspora’s “strong sense of community and solidarity.”
The outgoing Consul General also praised community organizations for preserving Indian traditions and passing them on to younger generations.
He said efforts to promote India’s cultural, linguistic and spiritual heritage had strengthened a shared sense of identity and belonging. He particularly commended initiatives focused on youth engagement, which he said helped younger generations remain connected to their cultural legacy while contributing meaningfully to the wider society.
Reflecting on his tenure, Lakshmanan said his interactions and collaborations with the community had reinforced his belief in the Indian diaspora’s potential to serve as an important bridge between India and the United States.
Lakshmanan also disclosed in the letter that he is moving on to his next assignment as Ambassador of India, though the letter does not specify the country of his new posting.
“As I move on to my next assignment as Ambassador of India, I remain confident that you will continue to serve as cultural ambassadors of Bharat in your own right,” he wrote.
He said community leadership and engagement would remain important in deepening community bonds, strengthening people-to-people ties and furthering India-U.S. relations.
Lakshmanan concluded by wishing community leaders and their organizations continued success in their future endeavors.
