Marietta, GA, March 31, 2025 – Jana Kanyadan, the former Global Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Mohawk Industries, Inc., has been sentenced to seven years and six months in federal prison for defrauding his employer out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Kanyadan, 54, of Marietta, Georgia, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud conspiracy and seven counts of wire fraud on November 1, 2024. In addition to his prison sentence, he was ordered to serve three years of supervised release, pay a $250,000 fine, and return $985,166.66 in restitution.
According to court records, Kanyadan orchestrated a fraudulent scheme while overseeing Mohawk’s information technology (IT) operations. In 2019, Mohawk embarked on a large-scale, multi-year IT project, outsourcing services to external firms. Kanyadan secretly established a Georgia-based company, Meta Technology Platforms, LLC (“Meta Tech”), and directed Mohawk’s IT work toward his own firm without disclosing his connection to it.
Between May 7, 2022, and October 2, 2022, Meta Tech billed Mohawk approximately $3.01 million for IT services, software, and inflated hourly rates—many of which were fraudulent. The invoices, approved by Kanyadan in his executive capacity, led Mohawk to pay Meta Tech around $1.85 million, with at least $820,577.40 stemming from fraudulent charges.
“The defendant stole money that should have gone to his employer,” said FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown. “We will continue to investigate and hold accountable anyone who attempts to scam their employer out of funds.”
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Samir Kaushal and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Tal C. Chaiken.
