Man Extradited from India Pleads Guilty in Two-Decades-Old Fatal Crash Case

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Mineola, NY, March 7, 2026: Ganesh Shenoy, 54, who was extradited from India last year to face charges in a two-decades-old fatal crash, has pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of a Long Island man.

Shenoy admitted in Nassau County Court that his reckless driving caused the death of Philip Mastropolo, 44, of Long Island, who was killed in a high-speed collision in Hicksville on April 11, 2005.

According to prosecutors, Shenoy ran a red light while driving at nearly twice the speed limit and slammed into Mastropolo’s Cadillac as the victim was on his way to work. The force of the crash pushed Mastropolo’s vehicle approximately 65 feet into another truck. Mastropolo died at the scene.

Authorities said Shenoy was treated at a hospital after the crash but left without receiving medical care. Fourteen days later, on April 25, 2005, he boarded a flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Mumbai, despite police having seized his passport and driver’s license.

A Nassau County grand jury indicted Shenoy on a charge of second-degree manslaughter in August 2005, but he remained outside the United States for nearly two decades.

Following a lengthy legal process, Shenoy was extradited from India to the United States on September 25, 2025, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and federal authorities.

He pleaded guilty in February 2026 and was sentenced on March 6 to 3⅓ to 10 years in prison.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said the case demonstrates that fleeing the country does not shield defendants from accountability.

“Justice does not have borders or an expiration date,” Donnelly said.
