NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT
Fremont, CA, September 25, 2025: A 29-year-old Indian-origin man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly targeting and fatally stabbing a registered sex offender in Fremont on September 18.
Police say Varun Suresh, a Fremont resident, had been monitoring the state’s online sex offender registry and selected his victim, 71-year-old David Brimmer, who was listed on the Megan’s Law database. According to court documents, Suresh took screenshots of offender profiles in the days leading up to the attack and later told investigators he had long harbored a desire to kill a sex offender because “they hurt children.”
Authorities allege Suresh posed as a CPA to gain access to Brimmer’s home. When Brimmer attempted to flee, Suresh pursued him through the neighborhood, stabbing him multiple times before fatally slashing his throat. Neighbors reported seeing Brimmer trying to flag down cars and seek refuge, but he collapsed on a nearby property before police arrived. Officers attempted lifesaving measures, but Brimmer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Suresh expressed no remorse during questioning, describing the killing as “fun” and stating he did not intend to evade capture. He reportedly told officers he would have called the police himself had they not already been on the way.
Suresh is charged with murder, residential burglary, and use of a deadly weapon, and is being held without bail. This is not his first brush with law enforcement: in 2021, he was arrested after allegedly making a false bomb threat and claiming he was “hunting” the CEO of Hyatt Hotels, whom he accused of being a pedophile.
The case has raised renewed concerns about vigilantism and the potential misuse of publicly available sex offender databases. While Brimmer’s name appeared on the registry due to prior offenses, authorities emphasized that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
“This was a targeted and premeditated act of violence,” Fremont Police said in a statement. “Regardless of someone’s criminal history, vigilante justice is unlawful and endangers our communities.”
Suresh is expected to appear in court later this week for a plea hearing.
