New York City, NY, March 1, 2025: Indian American Tushar Shah has made history by traveling to space on Blue Origin’s 30th mission, known as NS-30. The mission, which launched on February 25, 2025, was the tenth human spaceflight for Blue Origin and marked another step in private space travel.
Tushar Shah, an MIT graduate with a PhD in high-energy experimental particle physics, was part of a six-member crew that journeyed beyond the Kármán line—the internationally recognized boundary of space at 100 kilometers above Earth. The flight lasted about 11 minutes, during which the crew experienced weightlessness and saw breathtaking views of Earth.
Shah, who works as a partner at a hedge fund, is also dedicated to philanthropy. Along with his wife, Sara, he supports efforts to fight poverty, improve healthcare, and promote education. His participation in the NS-30 mission highlights the growing role of Indian Americans in the field of space exploration.
The NS-30 crew included entrepreneur Lane Bess, Spanish adventurer Jesús Calleja, Elaine Chia Hyde, Dr. Richard Scott, and an undisclosed sixth member. Their successful flight demonstrates how commercial space missions are becoming more accessible to individuals beyond traditional astronauts.
