Chicago, IL, August 12, 2026— A 31-year-old Chicago man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a woman in the city’s Albany Park neighborhood and was arrested hours later near O’Hare International Airport, authorities said.
Ankur Patel faces one felony count of first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 32-year-old woman early Sunday, August 9, according to Chicago police.
Police said officers found the woman at about 1:48 a.m. in a residence in the 4800 block of North Avers Avenue.
A police report obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times said the woman was found unresponsive in an apartment hallway near a bathroom. She had suffered a stab wound to the neck and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been publicly released.
Approximately nine hours later, Patel was taken into custody at about 11:12 a.m. in the 10000 block of West O’Hare Street near O’Hare International Airport, according to police.
The Sun-Times reported that Patel was arrested while going through airport security and apparently attempting to board a flight. Authorities have not publicly disclosed his intended destination.
Police have not publicly disclosed a possible motive for the killing or the nature of the relationship between Patel and the victim.
Patel was scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing Tuesday, according to ABC7 Chicago. Details of the hearing and whether a judge ordered him detained were not immediately available in publicly indexed reports as of Wednesday morning.
The investigation remains ongoing.
