Greenville, SC, August 17, 2026: A 24-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly driving recklessly through a barricaded area in downtown Greenville where the city’s India Day celebration had taken place earlier Saturday, according to police.
The Greenville Police Department identified the driver as Bailey McKenzi Brokamp, who was charged with hit-and-run, driving under the influence and failure to stop, according to local news reports.
Police said Brokamp was driving recklessly around Falls Park and drove through the India Day event site on Saturday night, Aug. 15.
The India Day celebration had already ended when the vehicle entered the barricaded area. A cleanup crew was working at the site at the time, according to FOX Carolina.
The incident drew attention because it occurred at the site of Greenville’s India Day festivities, an annual celebration of Indian culture and India’s Independence Day.
Brokamp was booked following the incident. Police have not announced any serious injuries connected with the episode in the information released so far.
The investigation and court proceedings are ongoing.
