New Jersey, July 28, 2026— A woman was killed in a road accident in New Jersey, just days before she was scheduled to return to India, leaving her family and community in mourning.
Sreepathi Deepa Reddy, who Indian media reports identify as being from Akuthotapally village in Amanagallu mandal of Telangana’s Rangareddy district, died after another vehicle reportedly collided with her car. Her age has been reported differently by various sources, with some identifying her as 42 and others as 44.
According to family members quoted by Indian media and social media posts, Deepa was driving after dropping her husband, Ramakrishna Reddy, at a nearby train station when the crash occurred. She reportedly died at the scene.
An X post citing the family claimed that New Jersey police had taken the driver of the other vehicle into custody. However, authorities had not publicly identified the driver or announced any charges at the time of publication, and official details about the crash had not yet been released.
Deepa and her husband moved to the United States in 2008 and had been living in New Jersey for several years. Both worked in the software industry and were raising their two children in the U.S.
The tragedy was made even more heartbreaking by the timing. According to family members, Deepa was scheduled to travel to India just two days after the accident.
Her family, who reside in Teachers Colony in Hastinapuram, Hyderabad, have appealed to the Indian government to help expedite the repatriation of her mortal remains so that her last rites can be performed in India.
As of publication, New Jersey authorities had not released the exact location of the crash or additional information regarding the circumstances of the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
