‘Racist Karen’ defends viral rant against Indian American photographer, claims she’s the victim

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Los Angeles, CA, December 5, 2024: Arlene Bunch, a 64-year-old woman whose racist tirade against Indian American photographer Pervez Taufiq went viral, has come forward claiming she is the real victim in the incident.

In the widely shared video, Bunch is seen shouting derogatory remarks at Taufiq and his family. However, she now alleges that the confrontation was instigated before the recording began.

According to Bunch, she suffers from agitation due to a brain injury sustained in a propane explosion. She described herself as a “very kind, calm person” but said the injury has made her prone to outbursts.

Bunch accused Taufiq of calling her and her family “white trash” before the cameras were turned on. She claimed Taufiq pushed in front of her in line, prompting a worker to send him to the back. “He’s talking to his wife, ‘Supposedly they are first class. Obviously, with no class and look at the way they’re dressed… they’re white trash,’” Bunch alleged.

She also said Taufiq became aggressive when boarding a shuttle bus, claiming he told her to “shut your big f**king mouth, you white trash b*tch,” which, she noted, was not captured on video.

Taufiq says the issue began on the plane when his 11-year-old son, seated next to Bunch, was subjected to uncomfortable questions. “She was asking him, ‘Are you Indian?’ and ‘Are you from New Delhi?’” Taufiq recounted.

The situation escalated after landing, culminating in the recorded confrontation on the shuttle bus.
