West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose Engages in In-Depth Conversation with Bengali Diaspora in Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA, October 1, 2026: From the role of the Bengali diaspora in West Bengal’s development to the state’s future, investment, education, culture and democratic institutions, a wide range of issues came up during an intimate yet substantive conversation between Shri Rathindra Bose, Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, and members of Atlanta’s Bengali community.

During his visit to Atlanta on September 24, Shri Bose addressed a gathering organized by Atlanta Bengalis for a Better West Bengal. Following his remarks, he participated in a moderated question-and-answer conversation with organizer and moderator Neel Majumdar. The discussion was subsequently opened to members of the Bengali community in attendance, giving them an opportunity to pose their questions directly to the Speaker.

One of the central themes of the discussion was how Bengalis living overseas could play a more active role in West Bengal’s development – not only through financial investment, but also by contributing their professional expertise, technology capabilities, experience in healthcare and education, entrepreneurship, management skills and international networks.

The conversation also touched upon creating employment and opportunities for the state’s younger generation, the investment environment in West Bengal, and ways of developing a more effective relationship between Bengal and its global diaspora.

Bose was also asked about the role of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly under his stewardship, including his thoughts on encouraging more substantive legislative debate, strengthening accountability and the committee system, and fostering a healthy environment for democratic dialogue between the government and the opposition.

At the beginning of the program, Dr. Raktim Sen presented Bose with a commemorative plaque on behalf of Atlanta’s Bengali community. Representatives of several Bengali community organizations in the Atlanta area were also present.

What distinguished the relatively brief gathering was its emphasis on direct conversation rather than formality. Instead of being limited to speeches from the stage, the program provided members of the diaspora an opportunity to put their questions and perspectives directly before the Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

One of the stated objectives of Bose’s overseas visit was to connect with Bengalis living abroad and encourage their participation in West Bengal’s development. The Atlanta conversation became a direct and substantive part of that broader diaspora outreach.
