Washington D.C., January 20, 2025: Indian American entrepreneur and political figure Vivek Ramaswamy has stepped down from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an initiative launched under the Trump administration to streamline federal operations. The move comes as Ramaswamy explores a potential run for governor of Ohio, coupled with mounting tensions over his recent public remarks and internal disagreements within DOGE.
Ramaswamy, who rose to prominence as a biotech entrepreneur and author, was a key figure in the creation of DOGE alongside tech magnate Elon Musk. However, his time with the organization has been marred by friction. Reports indicate that his limited involvement in key projects led to dissatisfaction among team members, with some questioning his commitment to DOGE’s mission.
Adding to the controversy were Ramaswamy’s recent comments about American culture venerating mediocrity which drew backlash, further isolating him within the administration. This public fallout reportedly provided Musk and others in DOGE with the momentum needed to advocate for his removal.
Meanwhile, Ramaswamy’s political ambitions have also played a part in his departure. The structure of DOGE requires its members to refrain from pursuing elected office while serving. With a gubernatorial campaign on the horizon, Ramaswamy’s resignation was seen as inevitable.
In a statement, Ramaswamy expressed gratitude for his time at DOGE and confidence in the organization’s future under Musk’s leadership. “It was an honor to serve, and I look forward to continuing my mission of advocating for innovation and efficiency in government through other avenues,” he said.
It was my honor to help support the creation of DOGE. I’m confident that Elon & team will succeed in streamlining government. I’ll have more to say very soon about my future plans in Ohio. Most importantly, we’re all-in to help President Trump make America great again! 🇺🇸 https://t.co/f1YFZm8X13
