Event Description:
‘Dream Mile – A few miles for a million dreams’ is Vibha’s slogan for their flagship charity event of the year and it couldn’t be more appropriate. Vibha (http://www.vibha.org) is a non-profit volunteer driven organization that strives to make a difference in the life of underprivileged children through social projects. The event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars across several locations in the US and India to fulfill the dreams of millions of needy children. What was introduced first in Atlanta in 1998 has become a major national event across several cites in the US. The 2012 Vibha Dream Mile 10K/5K Run attracted more than 1500 participants and raised more than $132,000. More than 150 volunteers participated in the event. If previous years are any indication, this year is going to be even bigger in terms of participation and contributions from sponsors and donors.
This year’s event is scheduled for September 21 st at Shakerag Park in the city of Johns Creek at 7:00 AM. The address of the location is 10945 Rogers Circle (adjacent to Fire Station), Johns Creek City, GA 30097. The event features a 5K run sponsored by Datum Software, a 10K run sponsored by Vensai Technologies and a 5K walk sponsored by Pyramid Consulting as well as other fun-filled games and activities tailored especially for young children. As a precursor to the event, the 2013 Dream Mile T-shirt design contest was organized for kids from K-12 grades.
An integral part of the Dream Mile is the Million Dreams pledge drive – hosted at Active.com, every individual is encouraged to create his or her own customized pledge page and set a personal fundraising target. Funds from the pledge drive this year have been committed to the Door Step School project that strives to provide education to children of migrant construction workers in India. Part of the proceeds also go to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
