Indian-American motel manager dies after being punched in the face

Oklahoma City, OK, June 26, 2024: Hemant Mistry, a 59-year-old Indian-American motel manager, tragically died after being punched in the face at a motel in Oklahoma City.

The incident occurred on June 22, around 10 PM, at a motel parking lot near Interstate 40 and Meridian Avenue.

According to police reports, Mistry asked Richard Lewis, 41, to leave the property, leading to an argument during which Lewis punched Mistry in the face. Mistry fell unconscious and was taken to a hospital, where he died at 7.40 pm on June 23.

Lewis was later found at a hotel in the 1900 block of S Meridian Avenue and arrested. He was initially held on charges of aggravated assault and battery. On June 24, he was held at the Oklahoma County jail on a $100,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
