Atlanta, GA, June 12, 2025: Atlanta-based Dr. Narasimhulu Neelagaru, a renowned cardiologist and founder of Quantum National Bank, was awarded the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor during a ceremony held on Ellis Island on Saturday, May 10.

The award, presented annually by the Ellis Island Honors Society, recognizes individuals who exemplify a life dedicated to community service, professional excellence, and a deep commitment to the nation’s ideals. Dr. Neelagaru was selected for his contributions to healthcare, economic development, and philanthropy.

Currently a director of both HomeTrust Bancshares and HomeTrust Bank, Dr. Neelagaru was nominated by KV Kumar and received unanimous approval from the society’s Board of Directors. His work in advancing healthcare, supporting economic growth, and engaging in humanitarian efforts was cited as the basis for the honor.

“Dr. Neelagaru has delivered free medical care to those in need, including expatriates during the pandemic, and helped distribute life-saving supplies through the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin’s charitable arm. A passionate education advocate, he’s awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to students across Georgia, empowering the next generation through opportunity and access,” said a video played at the event.

“Your unwavering commitment to serving the community and the impact of your efforts on countless lives make you a worthy recipient of this recognition,” wrote Nasser J. Kazeminy, Chairman of the Ellis Island Honors Society, in the award letter sent to Dr. Neelagaru earlier this year.

Established in 1986, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor has recognized a wide array of American leaders including Presidents Ronald Reagan and Joe Biden, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi. The medal is officially recognized by both Houses of Congress and recorded in the Congressional Record.

This year’s ceremony continued the tradition of honoring individuals who reflect the spirit of America’s rich immigrant history and dedication to civic values.
